The Lady Royals softball team dropped both games of a road doubleheader at Campbellsville on April 7, falling 6-4 in game one before a 16-0 loss in five innings in game two.
In the opening game, the Lady Royals came out strong, scoring two runs in the first inning. Aly Dickerson got things started with an RBI single, and Autumn Caywood added another run on an error to give Johnson an early 2-0 lead. Campbellsville answered with a run in the bottom half, but the Royals regained momentum in the fifth inning when Dickerson launched a two-run home run to extend the lead to 4-1.
Johnson held that advantage into the final inning behind a solid outing from Alyssa Nicely, who pitched 6.2 innings. However, Campbellsville mounted a late rally in the seventh, tying the game with a two-RBI double before walking it off with a two-run home run to secure the 6-4 victory.
Dickerson led the Royals offensively in game one, going 3-for-4 with three RBIs, including the home run. Megan Armstrong, Audrey Moorhouse, Dylan Jablonski, and Kadie Presley each contributed hits in the effort.
In game two, Campbellsville took control early and never looked back, scoring seven runs in the first inning and adding to the lead throughout the game en route to a 16-0 win in five innings. The Royals were limited to four hits, with Presley recording two, including a double. Aundrea Huddleston and Reese Burns also added hits for Johnson.
The Lady Royals will look to bounce back in their next matchup as they travel to Columbia University for their next contest.
