The Lady Royals softball team delivered a dominant performance on the road Saturday, sweeping a doubleheader against Spartanburg Methodist with a pair of convincing victories, 9-1 and 9-2.
In game one, the Lady Royals set the tone early and never looked back in a six-inning win. Johnson capitalized on early defensive miscues to jump out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning before adding two more in the third. A big fifth inning, highlighted by timely hitting from Audrey Moorhouse and contributions throughout the lineup, pushed the lead to 8-1.
Moorhouse led the offense with three hits and two RBIs, while Megan Armstrong and Autumn Caywood each added extra-base hits. Reese Burns and Madison Hood also drove in runs as part of a balanced offensive effort. In the circle, Lindy Webber was outstanding, tossing a complete game no-hitter while allowing just one unearned run and striking out eight.
Game two saw more of the same offensive firepower from the Royals. After a scoreless start, Johnson broke things open with a four-run third inning. Reese Burns and Megan Armstrong each drove in runs before Autumn Caywood launched a two-run home run to extend the lead.
The Lady Royals continued to add on throughout the game, with contributions from nearly every spot in the lineup. Caywood finished with two home runs and three RBIs, while Dylan Jablonski added a home run of her own. Aly Dickerson collected three hits, and Burns and Moorhouse each added multi-hit performances.
Alyssa Nicely earned the win in the circle, going the distance and allowing just two runs on six hits.
With the sweep, Johnson showcased both dominant pitching and explosive offense in improving their conference standing.
The Lady Royals will be back in action on April 13 as they travel to take on Bryan College.
