CIU (SC)
The Lady Royals picked up a road sweep on Saturday, defeating CIU 1-0 in extra innings before completing the day with a 5-2 victory.
Game one was a pitcher's duel from start to finish, with Lindy Webber delivering one of her strongest performances of the season. Webber tossed a complete-game shutout, striking out 10 and allowing just six hits across nine innings to keep CIU off the board.
Offensively, Johnson broke through in the top of the ninth. Aly Dickerson led the inning with a double and later moved into scoring position, setting the stage for Reese Burns, who delivered the game-winning RBI single up the middle to score Kaylee Dyke for the lone run of the game. Burns and Dickerson each finished with two hits to lead the Lady Royals.
The momentum carried into game two as Johnson jumped out early and never looked back. The Lady Royals opened the scoring in the first inning on a sacrifice fly from Aly Dickerson, and added to their lead in the third on an RBI single from Megan Armstrong.
A big fourth inning helped create separation, highlighted by a two-RBI hit from Adelaide Hubbard that pushed the lead to 4-0. Armstrong continued her strong day at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two RBIs, including a solo home run in the seventh to cap the scoring for Johnson.
In the circle, Alyssa Nicely earned the win, working six innings while allowing two runs. Madisun Pritchard came in to close things out with a scoreless seventh inning.
Hubbard led the way with two hits and two RBIs, while Armstrong's three-hit performance powered the offense. Dickerson also added an RBI in the win.
With the sweep, the Lady Royals continue to build momentum as they head into the final stretch of the season.
