Lady Royals Earn First Home Win of the Season
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – The Johnson University women's basketball team put together a complete performance on Wednesday night, defeating Georgia Gwinnett College 73–57 inside Douglas E. Karnes Arena to earn their first home victory of the season.
The Lady Royals (1–3) controlled the game from the opening tip, jumping out to a 19–11 lead after the first quarter and maintaining steady momentum throughout. Johnson shot an efficient 49.1% from the field and 36.4% from three-point range, while dominating the glass with a 52–35 rebounding advantage.
Sophomore Jordan Heifner led the way with a 17-point, 10-rebound double-double, connecting on 5-of-7 from beyond the arc. Madison Brady added 12 points and six rebounds, while Emery Tollett contributed a versatile 11 points, 13 rebounds, and four assists. Jadyn Cooper and Shamiya Francis also reached double figures with 10 points each, rounding out a balanced offensive attack.
Johnson's defensive effort was equally impressive, holding the Grizzlies to just 29.9% shooting from the floor and forcing 15 turnovers.
The Lady Royals outscored Georgia Gwinnett in every quarter and showed noticeable growth on both ends of the floor as they begin to settle into the season.
Johnson will look to carry that momentum into their next matchup as they continue this weekend.
