The Lady Royals put together a strong all-around performance Saturday afternoon, pulling away in the middle quarters to earn an 81–61 win over Union Commonwealth at Karnes Arena.
After a tightly contested opening quarter that ended tied at 15, the Lady Royals began to take control in the second period. Johnson outscored Union Commonwealth 18–6 in the quarter to carry a 33–21 advantage into halftime, setting the tone for the rest of the afternoon.
Johnson delivered its most decisive stretch coming out of the break, erupting for 32 points in the third quarter while holding Union Commonwealth to 16. The surge opened up a commanding lead and allowed the Lady Royals to play with confidence down the stretch.
Kelsey Holt led the offensive charge with 15 points off the bench, knocking down five three-pointers. Gibson Boykin added 14 points, while Emery Tollett finished with 13 points and seven assists. Shamiya Francis and Megan Biliter each recorded double figures, scoring 11 and 10 points respectively, as Johnson showcased its depth and balance.
The Lady Royals shot 44.9 percent from the field and connected on 12 three-pointers, while also winning the rebounding battle, 43–42. Defensively, Johnson forced 18 turnovers and turned them into key scoring opportunities.
Johnson will hit the road next, traveling to Young Harris College for a matchup on December 16.
