Lebanon, Tenn - The Johnson University women's basketball team faced a tough test on the road Tuesday night, falling 88–52 to Cumberland University.
Cumberland came out strong, building an early lead and maintaining control throughout the contest. The Royals found their rhythm in the second half, matching the Phoenix with 18 points in both the third and fourth quarters, but the early deficit proved too much to overcome.
Madison Brady led Johnson with 14 points on an efficient 5-for-8 shooting performance, including a perfect 2-for-2 from beyond the arc. Gibson Boykin added 8 points and 5 rebounds, while Jadyn Cooper and Alicia Cruz each chipped in 7 points.
Despite the loss, the Royals showed grit and continued to battle to the final buzzer. "We competed hard and continued to grow as a team," said Head Coach Bryon Lawhon.
Johnson will look to regroup as they continue their early-season stretch of nonconference play.
